Raiders of Hudson outlast the Central Wisconsin Storm in 4 OT thriller.

It took two games worth of play time but the Hudson Raiders topped the Central Wisconsin Storm 3-2 in an epic, four-overtime game tonight in Madison.

Eden Gruber got the Storm on the board at 7:27 of the first, with an assist from Kiley Hahner. The teams traded power plays in the first period, but neither could capitalize on the advantage.

The second period followed suit with both teams getting a couple chances but unable to convert, while trading a power play each.

Four minutes into the third period Hudson evened the score, when Dani Robson fed from behind the net to Quinn Winkoski in the corner, and Winkoski hit Mallory Thompson all alone in front of the net, and Thompson beat Katrina Fredrickson high on the blocker side.

Hudson took the lead five minutes later when Dani Robson collected a turnover on a Hudson power play and hit Quinn Winkoski alone in the high slot. Winkoski tucked a wrister under the crossbar to make it 2-1 for the Raiders.

The Storm evened it on a power play goal of their own. Dru Sabatke hit Trinity Foster on the back door through traffic and Foster buried the puck behind goalie Alayna Kunshier.

The teams traded penalties at the end of regulation. Mallory Thompson went off for tripping with 46 seconds left, and Kily Hahner made it 4-on-4 when she picked up her own tripping penalty with 1.3 seconds left before the game went to overtime.

After both penalties were killed Sabatke earned two minutes for body checking to put Hudson back on the power play with 5:47 left in the overtime period. The Storm managed to kill the penalty before getting a power play of their own after a Rose Giblin hold. A hook by Morgan Miller gave the Storm the  5-on-3 advantage but they weren’t able to capitalize and the game moved to the second overtime with 5 seconds left on the Storm advantage.

The teams traded penalties in the second over time, and Hudson hit a couple of pipes but after 76 the game was still going.

In the third overtime, Maddux Federici was ejected for a check-from-behind into the end boards, giving Hudson a major power play. The Storm killed the five-minute penalty and play continued. With 1:29 left in the third over time the Storm picked up their first power play of the frame but they weren’t able to capitalize before the period ended.

At the 113:35 mark, Sydney Hendricks took a feed from Bailee Dierks in the high slot and put one past Fredrickson to give the Raiders an epic win.

Fredrickson had 42 saves for the Storm, and Kunshier had 37 for the Raiders. The Raiders move on to play the Fox Cities Stars in Saturday’s championship game.
